By week’s end, Polliwogs will know so much more about extraordinary creatures and how important water is to life on our planet. The week starts out with short explorations of the Aquarium galleries mixed with indoor and outdoor activities and is rounded out with off campus adventures for a day at the Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center.

Bullfrogs

Ages 9 - 10

Leap into fun as we discover the amazing world around us. Exploring the Aquarium buildings, visiting with animals and their caretakers, behind the scene visits, games and activities will enhance our understanding of caring about and taking care of our world. Campers keep busy with indoor and outdoor adventures such as learning to SCUBA dive and paddleboard (but not at the same time!) and exploring local parks including the water park at Horn’s Creek NOC Resort. On Thursday night, campers watch the sharks, sea turtles and thousands of fish swim over head as they fall asleep “under the sea” in the Aquarium’s Ocean Journey building.

In Quest Camp science becomes an adventure and the outdoors is the classroom!  Each day of the week we experience that “classroom” in a different manner.  Monday we hike the Laural Falls trail near Dayton, TN. Tuesday is spent lake kayaking in the Ocoee section of the Cherokee National Forest.  On Tuesday night we stay at the Ocoee Retreat Center.  Wednesday we return to the Ocoee area for mountain biking.  On Thursday we snorkel the Conasauga River in Polk County, TN.  Friday finds us underground in Raccoon Caverns on a wild cave expedition. This camp requires all campers to participate in all activities.

Conservation Leadership in Action Week (CLAW)
Session 8
Open to rising 10th-12th graders
Sunday-Saturday, overnight every night

Dig your claws in for an intensive, week-long overnight summer camp with scientists from the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute. We will explore the many ways we interact with the environment through our rivers and streams. We will paddle, hike, and snorkel, to learn more about the watery world and animals that live around us. Students who complete camp will have access to TNACI scientists as resources for future projects so they can continue their development as a water conservation hero. Spots are limited and competitive.

CLAW will take place during July 20 -26, 2014. Students will live in the dorms at Baylor School and use their classrooms as a base for our activities. The total cost is $750. Full and partial scholarships are available for those in need of assistance.
