MEDIA ADVISORY Sept. 15, 2004 First sizeable sharks delivered to Aquarium’s animal care facility Sand tiger sharks getting into the swim of things for new Ocean Journey building WHAT: In preparation for the April 29 opening of the Tennessee Aquarium’s Ocean Journey building, five large (some up to 8 feet in length) sand tiger sharks were delivered to the Aquarium’s offsite facility. Media are invited to the Aquarium’s animal care facility to get a sneak peek of the fish that have become synonymous with fear. WHEN: Friday, Sept. 17 at 10:30 a.m. WHERE: Warehouse at 2472 Amnicola Hwy. (Please park behind the warehouse on Clay Street.) WHO: Rob Mottice (pronounced moe-teece) is an Aquarium biologist who specializes in sharks. Rob also manages the fish acquisitions program and animal care facility. Jackson Andrews is the Aquarium's director of husbandry and operations and is overseeing the Ocean Journey project. Both will be available for interviews. WHAT ELSE: Sand tiger sharks are one of several shark species that will be exhibited in Ocean Journey. Other sharks to be featured: Sand bar sharks (up to 7 feet long) in the 500,000-gallon Secret Reef exhibit Bonnethead sharks (up to 4 feet long) in Secret Reef, as well as in the Gulf of Mexico exhibit in the Aquarium’s River Journey building Bamboo sharks (white-spotted and brown-banded up to 3 feet long) in the shark/ray touch tank (Shark Lagoon) on level 4 Epaulette sharks (up to 3 feet long) also will inhabit Shark Lagoon. ### ONLINE Newsroom: http://www.tnaqua.org/Newsroom/ExpansionPressKit.asp Downloadable images: http://www.tnaqua.org/Newsroom/Photo_library.asp
