Amphibians

Frogs, salamanders and toads are all amphibians. The word "amphibian" is derived from the Greek word amphibios, which means "living a double life." The majority of amphibians complete the first part of their life cycle in the water and then move onto land as adults.

Tennessee Aquarium visitors will be surprised at how incredibly diverse amphibians are in shape, size and color. From weird looking native amphibians like hellbender salamanders to brightly colored tropical frogs, the Aquarium’s River Journey building is home to some awesome amphibians. You might meet an additional frog or toad up close during an Animal Encounter program. Make some “newt” friends by learning about these creatures here.
